Sometimes I just seem to articulate things just the way I want to to illustrate a point. For example:
My Friend: I think I just turned him into a bad guy.
Me: No you didn't. You can't turn someone into a bad guy. You just kept him beyond his expiration date. "Break up with by 11/20." I feel like right now we're in front of the proverbial relationship fridge with you holding him and asking me to see if he smells weird.
That'll be 5 cents

Sometimes...
This picture doesn't do it justice, but only a Florida sunset can turn a tourist wasteland like 192 into a postcard...

Misunderstanding Friends (Part I of Many)
What she said: Oooh. I found a book I needed for teaching. I need Professional Ed and English Grade 6-12.
What my mind came up with: A dude in a sharp suit with glasses with a nametag that says Ed.

This isn't going to be a constant theme...
Football has inspired me to write again. Don't stop reading. Two things:
1) This one won't be as introspective
2) I don't intend to make a habit of sports-related posts. But this really fries my rice.
Brett Favre broke a couple of bones in his foot last Sunday. He currently holds the record for most consecutive games started by any football player. It's still active and currently at 291. That means he has been the starting quarterback for whatever team he's played for every football Sunday since September 27, 1992. I'm not Favre fan, but I mention that because it's a big deal that the streak could end on Sunday and everyone all over sports is talking about it.
ESPN is filled with so-called journalists and analysts. Multiple times over the last few days I've heard this: "Favre's two fractures in his foot could put his consecutive-starts streak in jeopardy." NO, DUMMIES! Not could. He may not start on Sunday so his streak IS CURRENLY in jeopardy. UGH.
That is all.

Conundrum
So, I don't know if you're a sports fan, but a football game got me to thinking today. Bear with me, it's not all sports related.
The Miami Dolphins lost Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-22. Popular opinion is that the Dolphins are a an average to slightly above average team. The Steelers are a great team. Their defense is in the top 3 in the league. Today, though, the Dolphins were in it for the entire game. 22 points is the most anyone has scored on Pittsburgh all season long. And, if it weren't for a controversial call by a referee at the end of the game (and, let's not kid ourselves, it was the wrong call) the Dolphins would have won the game.
On the other side of that coin, the Dolphins beat the Buffalo Bills the first week of the season 15-10. The Bills have yet to win a game this season in six attempts.
I point this out because it got me to thinking: Is it possible to feel better about something in defeat than in victory? I was happier with the way the Fins played against Pittsburgh in a loss than in Buffalo in a win. Is that something that can be applied to my everyday existence? I feel like, with a few exceptions, nothing is going right lately in any aspect of my life. I'm not saying I don't want things to get better, but is there a corollary here? Are there defeats that can be looked at in life and be able to take solace in effort or proximity to success?
Part of me wants to believe that. But, at the end of the day, a win is a win, no matter how sloppy it looks.
Thoughts?

Rule of Drinking
A friend of mine was considering drinking alone last night. She'd had a rough night and felt it might make her feel better. She were afraid that drinking alone, though, is dangerous and the beginning of alcoholism. I suggested drinking in moderation. When it comes to wine, moderation might be a difficult concept. So I suggested a rule:
"Moderation is still being able to spell it"
You're welcome.

TBone vs Philosophy. Part I
Which is more useful, the Sun or the Moon?
Unknown Philosopher: The Moon is more useful, since it gives us light during the night, when it is dark. The Sun shines only in the daytime, when it is light anyway.
Me: No one ever talks about the moon expanding. Or going supernova. The moon doesn't give us skin cancer or burn us. We've gone to hang out at the moon (we even brought a cool little car). I totally vote moon.
Who wins?

Letter to Charlie #1
Dear Charlie,
If you decide that this is how you want to fall asleep....
...please don't be mad at me when I wake you up thinking you're dead. It's just because I love you.
Love,
Dad

See what I did there?
Get it? It sounds like my "take" on life... but it's not. It's punny.
You might want to get used to that. I tend to tell awful jokes. Luckily, I sometimes tell stories that happen to be pretty funny.
I used to write a lot. I wanted to be a writer for a long time. I like making people laugh. And sometimes I just need to vent. So that's what this is going to be. Hopefully it'll make you laugh. Maybe sometimes it'll make you think. I expect it to be pretty consistently entertaining.
I'm an applause whore, so feel free to comment. I like to know what people think.
